Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
By the decree of Fr. General Superior on January 25, 2021, father Joseph Le Huu Phuoc sss, was nominated as General Archivist in place of father Carlo Vassalli sss. His office officially starts in February 4, 2021, in the memory of the 210th birthday anniversary of our Founder, Saint Peter Julian Eymard.
Fr. Carlo Vassalli sss (Italy) was responsible for the General Archive nearly 10 years. He was appointed as General Archivist on 14 October 2011 and he continued until 4 February 2021. On 17 October 2011, three days later, the General Superior appointed him as the Procurator General.
The role of the Archivist, for most of the time, is confined in the Archive, where he classifies and arranges the documents as well as responds to researchers who ask for various infor-mation in relation to history and documents of the SSS.
For the cause of his aging, Fr. Carlo was relieved firstly from his role as Procurator general on 23 June 2019 and secondly as Archivist general on 4 February 2021.
We are very grateful to Fr. Carlo Vassalli sss for his dedicated service as Archivist General for all these years. His tireless collaboration, dedication and patience in his service assured the guaranty for the SSS documents, events and history of the Congregation to be well safeguarded and to be well accessible. As an example of his work as an archivist, it was Fr. Carlo who asked Fr Harrie Verhoeven to write that precious text, which was published shortly after his death (sent on January 4, 2021). We ask the Eucharistic Lord, through the intercession of St. Peter Julian Eymard, to grant him great health to continue to live his consecration as a true gift to the Lord in the Eucharist, to give testimony of joy, of openness, of prayer and of SSS mission.
In the SSS International n. 280 we already introduced Fr. Phuoc as a young religious from the Province of Vietnamese Martyrs. He arrived in Rome at the Generalate on July 29, 2018 and began working with Fr. Carlo as an assistant-archivist and assistant-procurator. With the new decree as Archivist general, he now undertakes completely the roles of Fr. Carlo as General Procurator and General Archivist. Along with two main responsibilities, he is also in collaboration with the Secretariat to look after the website www.ssscongregatio.org (cfr. SSS International n. 292) as assistant secretary.
