“There is no centre other than Jesus, and for me Jesus Eucharistic […] He draws us constantly to Himself like a magnet; it is a perpetual attraction; the life of love is just that.”
Saint Peter-Julian Eymard (NR 44,83)
On Sunday 14 August 2022 brothers Francisco and Christophe Mendy (Province of Our Lady of Africa) together with Wilmer Jobany Gómez Rodríguez and Juan David Zapata Patiño (Province of Saint John XXIII) were ordained as deacons. We give thanks to God for the gift of life and the ministry received.
In preparation for our ordination, we spent time in reflecting and meditating on the “Preparation for the Eucharistic Mysteries”. We were also able to contemplate some aspects of the diaconal ministry regarding Eucharistic Spirituality and the liturgical dimension in the dynamism of the “Ars celebrandi”. This time of preparation was concluded by a retreat full of teachings.
The celebration was presided by Msgr Norberto Strotmann MSC, bishop of the Diocese of Chosica. In his homily he underlined two fundamental points: first of all, the sense and responsibility connected to the diaconal ministry and, on the other hand, the meaning of the different moments of the rite of ordination.
We take this occasion to present our greeting of gratitude to the whole Congregation, to our province Our Lady of Africa and to the SSS Latin-American conference (CLAS) for this beautiful experience we have lived. We thank Fr Camille Gagnon sss for his availability and service in accompanying us.
We trust in God’s mercy to help us in living this ministry at the centre of his Church.
Deacon Francisco Mendy, sss
