We inform the Blessed Sacrament Congregation that His Lordship Bishop Winston Fernando SSS, bishop of Badulla, Sri Lanka, has decided to retire.

Bishop Winston was born on 16/01/1945, and was ordained a priest in our Congregation on 06-09-1975. He was appointed bishop of Badulla on 14-06-1997.

On January 30, 2023, an official Vatican release announced that Rev. Fr Jude Silva is the new bishop of Badulla. That means Bishop Winston is now Bishop Emeritus.

At the moment he is residing at our St Philip Neri’s Church community in Colombo, until he will decide the place where he will reside definitively. In the meantime, he wishes to avail himself to be of assistance to the Colombo community for liturgical and pastoral ministries.

We are delighted to welcome him back to our community and wish him a successful continuation as a retiree.
