50th Anniversary Priestly Ordination

On Sunday, 17 March 2024, during the Eucharistic celebration at 10 am, the Blessed Sacrament community of Prato - together with the parish community of St Augustine - celebrated the 50th anniversary of Fr. Venceslao Dal Cero’s priestly ordination. In the presence also of his family members (sister-in-law and three nephews with their respective families), Fr. Venceslao presided at the solemn concelebration, while his brother Fr. Gino gave the homily, in which he spoke of the meaning of this priestly jubilee: “We are celebrating 50 years of Fr. Venceslao’s priesthood. 50 years of a journey of life lived in the following of Jesus. 50 years of service to the mission that the Lord has entrusted to our Congregation, which is called to highlight the centrality of the Eucharist: source and summit of all Christian life, a mystery of love and communion with God and among men".

Born in Carrè (VI) on 21 May 1942, Venceslao in 1954 entered the seminary of Casier, where he began the path of formation that would lead him to priestly ordination, which he received in St Benedetto del Tronto on 16 March 1974, together with Fr. Giulio Maccali and Fr. Renato Pegorari. The first years of his priestly ministry he was engaged above all in formation, in particular as spiritual director of the Students at St Benedetto. In the mid-80s he was in Rome, as the superior of the community of St Claudio and, then, of the community of the General Curia. In 1987, he was elected General Treasurer, thus becoming part of the General Council, where he remained until 2005 collaborating with three Superiors General: Frs. Tony, Norman and Florence. In this role, he had the opportunity to visit several times the Blessed Sacrament communities present in different parts of the world. In 2006, after a sabbatical, he returned to the Province where he served in various communities. Since 2018 he has been in the Prato community together with Fr. Gino, superior of the same community.

50 Anniversary 1“Fr. Venceslao - Fr. Gino continued in his homily – in celebrating fifty years of priesthood, wants to express his gratitude to the Lord for all the benefits received in these years, for the joys experienced, for the difficulties overcome, for the people met through the various roles and tasks of responsibility and service that he carried out according to mission of the Congregation. The priestly vocation called him to walk on the beautiful - and sometimes difficult - paths of life but convinced that there is Another who supports our steps. Precisely because of this conviction, which accompanied his entire ministry, he has placed on the card commemorating the anniversary of his ordination St. Paul’s phrase: ‘I can do all things in him who strengthens me’.”

At the end of the celebration, Fr. Venceslao for his part expressed his grateful recognition to all who wished to share his joy, while at the same time he assured his availability to continue undertaking the ministry as far as possible that the Lord may grant him, day after day, faithful to the vocation he has received.
