EYMARDIAN YOUTH: A youth at the service of the Eucharist

Eucharistic Vocation and mission of the EY

The Eymardian Youth (EY) is a branch of the Aggregation of the Blessed Sacrament, with which it shares the same Life Project. Originating within the Our Lady of Africa Province (Senegal - Guinea Bissau), it was officially launched a year ago, on 13 May 2023. To achieve its objectives, the EY functions by drawing on its identity and from of an annual plan of activity.

The EY proposes to live according to the charism, spirituality and mission of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, founded by Saint Peter Julian Eymard, the outstanding apostle of the Eucharist. Its aim is to form young people who are at the service of the Eucharist in all its dimensions (liturgical and social), while thus sharing in the mission of the evangelization and transformation of society.

Highlight activities of the EY

One of the keystones of the EY consists in the formation of its members. Throughout the year, we have organized the following sessions about: the life of the Founder, the Congregation, the Our Lady of Africa Province (Senegal - Guinea Bissau) and on the Bible. This has enabled us to deepen our understanding of the Holy Scriptures, further nourish our faith and enrich our spiritual lives. Likewise, during Lent, specific themes were addressed in order to foster a better experience of this period of penitence.

Times of prayer were at the heart of our activities to build our identity as an EY. We gathered for moments of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with the possibility of sacramental confession, thus offering everyone an opportunity to reflect and strengthen their relationship with God. Once during the term, the Eucharistic celebration also featured at the heart of our meetings.

As well as our liturgical programmes of prayer or recollection, the EY also held bimonthly meetings to discuss themes such as marriage, politics or other topics in our society that concern young people. These meetings were often followed by fraternal sharing (agapè) aimed at strengthening the bonds between us and creating a true family spirit. Among other spiritual activities, the EY was also involved in the social aspect by visiting the nursery of the Cité de l'Emmanuel in Nianing, after collecting donations in kind and in cash arranged by the members. And to close this beautiful pastoral year, next July we are planning to organize a day of recreation, an Eymardian day, to get to know each other better and strengthen our bonds between brothers and sisters.

1st anniversary and perspectives of the the EY

It is with joy and gratitude, but also a lot of emotion and enthusiasm, that we celebrated, on 13 May 2024, the 1st anniversary of the Eymardian Youth. As a matter of gracious coincidence, this date was likewise the 168th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Most Holy Sacrament. United with the SSS Religious of Our Lady of Africa Province and our elders in the Aggregation, we experienced this important event together, beginning with a solemn celebration of the Eucharist, followed by a fraternal meal. This was an opportunity to offer thanks to God by remembering our first steps and thus marking our belonging to the Eymardian Family.

With a broad vision of youth and service, we wish as Eymardian,Yourth to approach new horizons that would foster our greater involvement in all the activities of the Eymardienne Family, in order to impress the world through three (3) magic words and keys to success often emphasised by our formator Father Christophe Mendy, sss, namely: audacity, perseverance and creativity.
