In the first week of February 2025, from Monday the 3rd to Friday the 7th, our confreres of Piano di Sorrento (Fathers Albino, Alvise, Giuseppe, Mauro and Vittorio), had a community Retreat led by Father Flavio, the Consultor responsible.
After Lauds and morning Mass, at 9:45 the community gathered for a brief introduction to the number of the Rule of Life that would then be the focus of personal reflection and prayer, helped by the Commentary of Fr. McSweeney. In the afternoon, at 15:30 the confreres met again to share each other’s reflections on the number of the Rule being considered and on the pertinent commentary. Thus, in the course of 5 days, we covered five numbers present in the fourth part of the Rule, entitled “In memory of me”: n. 22 (The Word of God), n. 25 (The work of salvation), n. 28 (Celebration and prayer), n. 30 (In the dynamism of the Eucharist), n. 34 (The Eucharist, source of our mission). In the late afternoon, after the Rosary and Vespers, evening Mass was presided over by Fr. Flavio during these days.
In addition to the religious community, these days also saw the involvement of the group of lay people who frequent our church, beginning with the twelve who, last December 8, made their public promise as members of the Aggregation of the Blessed Sacrament.
On Monday evening, a formation meeting was held to consider more deeply the attitudes that the Eucharistic celebration, as a true school of Christian life, forms: welcoming, forgiveness, listening, sharing, gratitude, communion.
On Wednesday, February 5, the anniversary of the baptism of St. Peter Julian, there was a solemn concelebration with the parish priest Don Antonino also present. After the Mass, most of the lay people present at the Monday meeting gathered to share their reflections on how they endeavour to witness to a life moulded by the Eucharist.
Friday’s evening Mass continued with community adoration, which was also attended by a significant representation of the Scouts who meet regularly in our house and who animate the Sunday Mass at 10:30. The prayer was followed by an agape, at which a concrete experience of sharing in joy and brotherhood marked the conclusion of these beautiful days.
The good participation of the faithful was also a sign of their closeness and gratitude to the Blessed Sacrament community which, this year, commemorates 60 years of its presence in Piano di Sorrento, having officially opened on 8 December 1965.
