“From bread to the Eucharist”

The bakery of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament is a project of the Religious of the Blessed Sacrament in Senegal, in the Province of Our Lady of Africa. This initiative aims to support young people in our formation houses as well as SSS religious in their specialization. Thus, with the blessing of Bishop André Gueye, then Bishop of Thies, the Saint Peter-Julian Eymard parish in Koudiadiene was chosen to host the implementation.

The bakery turned out its first batch of bread on March 19, 2024, which was a joyous day for everyone in the parish territory because we know how much the Serer people of West Africa enjoy consuming bread.

Senegal 2We deliver Serer Ndiassane to Thiaoune Diora via Lam-Lam, Thiafathie, and Thiawoune Lowa, not neglecting part of the neighbouring parish of Saint Peter of Lalane. This is not easy because the market is already flooded by three major producers from different bakeries in the area. This is a real challenge given the state of competition. However, far from discouraging us, this challenge motivates us even more to broaden our presence in the market thanks to the quality of the product offered.

The bakery of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament has also ventured into the pastry sector. You can find the following products there: twist, chocolate, coconut twist, navette, Swiss coconut honey, coconut rochet, and madeleine. We are also looking for a willing person to help us expand our catalogue with Savory products. These products that we have listed are for sale in the shop in Koudiadïène, at the Saint Gabriel College in Thies, and other public places.

One of the project's main objectives is to contribute to youth employment in the parish and surrounding areas. As such, the bakery employs both Christian and Muslim young people from Koudiadïène and Lalane; a way that encourages all skills, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

Our founder, Saint Peter-Julian Eymard, said in essence: "The Eucharist must flow from Blessed Sacrament religious when urged " — from bread to the Eucharist! The purpose of our bakery perfectly reflects this image of transformation. Bread to train future apostles of the Eucharist!

To conclude this brief presentation of our work, we open our doors and our hands to anyone of goodwill to support this project, which may one day give rise to other projects that will breathe new life into our economy in our Province.
