Come to me and you will have life - Songs for the Eucharistic Liturgy. Words and music: Severino Pellizzon

Severino

Every time the Christian community celebrates the Eucharistic liturgy, it proclaims the renewal and fulfilment of God’s exclusive and unchanging mystery of love for humanity. God continues to reveal himself in the Word, in the Body of Christ, in the ecclesial assembly, in the daily unfolding of history, in the manifold newness of the Spirit… and nourishes us with his life so that ours may manifest his, and attain the fulness of communion.

In the celebration of the Eucharist, God’s people express their faith and hope through a variety of languages, symbols, signs, gestures and song.

Drawing on biblical and liturgical texts, Brother Severino Pellizzon SSS, a naturally gifted musician (this is his sixth CD!), offers simple, melodious refrains and canons for the congregation as they celebrate the mystery of the Eucharist as one body.

In addition to the selections for the celebration of Mass, some evocative canons for Eucharistic Adoration are also offered.

The songs and sheet music are available on CD and USB stick.

  • My heart rejoices. An entrance hymn that opens with musical notes and celebrates Sunday, a day of feast, the Pasch of the week, the day of the Resurrection. The text draws from several Psalms to give thanks to the One who has made us His blessed children.
  • Kyrie, Gloria, Alleluia, Our Father, Agnus Dei. While respecting the distinctive character of each of these hymns from the Ordinary of the Mass, the proposed melodies engage both voice and heart to unite the congregation in one spirit.
  • Come to the banquet. An Offertory chant to accompany the procession of the gifts being brought to the altar; it is repeated after the presentation of the bread and wine.
  • The melody of the Sanctus then is echoed in the Doxology and the Amen, giving unity to the Eucharistic Prayer.
  • In memory of me. Communion hymn accompanying the congregation as they move toward the table to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord.
  • I give you thanks. A canon based on Psalm 138, suitable after Communion to give thanks with all one’s heart for God’s faithfulness and goodness.
  • My disciples. Proposed as a farewell of the assembly at the conclusion of the celebration. It echoes Jesus’ words to his disciples, whom he called to be his witnesses on the roads of the world.
  • Three simple canons are also suggested, which can be learnt on the spot, for Eucharistic Adoration: In the Breath, I Believe in Your Gift, Adoramus te Jesu Christe. These provide a valuable aid to foster interiorly deepening our communion with Christ and his Paschal Mystery.
  • Gratia plena. This hymn to Mary, focusing on the words of the Angel’s announcement, concludes the selection of hymns. The certainty of always having a mother by our side is reassuring that God is with us.
