‘Communio’ in Wales

Following on from our consultations in the Province of SS. Peter & Paul in-light of the 36^th General Chapter, it seemed appropriate to gather members of the Eymardian family for our 12^th Provincial Chapter under the banner of ‘Communion’.

The history of the word communio leaps out of the Cenacle and speaks into the purposes of our participation and fellowship- and how the holy Eucharist speaks into the Church’s very nature. The outline of the Chapter which was held at Noddfa Retreat Centre in North Wales followed a course which mapped out our life of participation and fellowship in the British Isles: ‘Communion: Thanksgiving & Praise’; ‘Economy of Communion’; ‘Communion in Leadership’; ‘Celebrating Communion in Leadership & Service’; ‘Maturing in Communion’; and, ‘The Future in Communion’. Under these themes worship, discernment and decisions came together in the company of our international SSS brothers and representatives of Servitium Christi and the ‘Life in the Eucharist’ movement in Ireland and Scotland.

It was wonderful to have our Superior General accompany us as his presence marked his first visit to the U.K., along with Fr. Jose Antonio Rivera Ruiz SSS participation online. Sr. Ellen Flynn, DC as facilitator ensured that the communio pathway to which we had committed was followed in both our worship and deliberations. Thank you for each of these inputs as new horizons were opened up before us.

As we remained in the Spirit of Celebrating Communion in Leadership & Service Fr. Peter Dowling SSS was elected Consultor and Provincial Treasurer, Fr. Jim Campbell SSS was elected Consultor and Provincial Vicar, and I was elected Provincial Superior. The Province now moves forward with a mandate to incarnate ‘Lines of Action’ as the collective fruit of its 12^th Chapter.
