Father Eugênio Barbosa Martins, our Superior General, arrived in Maputo on 15 May 2023 accompanied by Father Agostinho Maholele, General Consultor, from the DRC-Kinshasa.
The Superior General met on Monday afternoon Bishops Dom João Carlos, the new archbishop of Maputo and Dom Tonito Muananoua, the new auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Maputo.
On 16 May Father Eugênio travelled about 60 km to Moamba to visit the Parish of St João de Brito in Moamba, the new Parish of the SSS religious. He also had the opportunity to see the future SSS community in this region of the Archdiocese of Maputo. His visit of the city of Moamba was accompanied by Father Geraldo and Father Humberto.
On Tuesday afternoon, Father Eugênio presided at the Eucharist and at the end of the celebration met some members of the local pastoral council. He explained to them who St Peter-Julian Eymard is and what he did in the Church: the founding of the Blessed Sacrament Congregation and giving it its charism, with the Sister Servants of the Blessed Sacrament and the Aggregation of the Blessed Sacrament, thus forming the Eymardian Family. In response to one of the questions asked about who can be a member of the Eymardian Family, Father Eugênio replied: a person must be extremely passionate about the Blessed Sacrament.
The Parish of St João de Brito in Moamba has 7 communities. So, Father Eugênio also visited three of these communities, namely: the community of St Madalena of Pessene about 30 km from the parish, that of St Pedro and St Paulo of Maoche more or less 24 km from the parish, and that of St António of Tenga approximately 38 km from the parish.
On returning to Maputo, Father Eugênio met the young people of the SSS Centre, the superiors and the SSS religious, and the Eymardian Family.
